BUCSC Presidential Nominations Guide

UPDATED 22 JANUARY 2021

Hey, Brescia! Welcome to the Winter Term of the 2020/2021 academic year.

For many of us, there are lots of changes happening over the next couple of weeks: new classes, new professors, new timetables, and more.

Brescia’s Students’ Council is also going through some changes. In the coming months, we will begin the process of selecting the members of the 2021/2022 Executive Team. The first position that needs to be filled is the role of the BUCSC President.

“After sitting on Brescia’s Student Council during the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years, I was able to see what improvements the Brescia Community and the BUCSC needed, and wanted to advocate and implement change on a much larger scale. Through the position of BUCSC President, I have been given the opportunity to set the strategic plan for the Council, and drive change on the BUCSC, Brescia University College, and the City of London,” says our current President, Emily Petch. “The position has given me the once in a lifetime opportunity to advocate for both the wellness and academic experiences of Brescia’s 1300 students, and aid in my personal development as a women leader, manager, policy developer and advocate.”

The President has responsibilities pertaining to both the Brescia University College Students’ Council and to the academic institution, overseeing all BUCSC activities as well as representing Brescia’s student body on the Brescia University College Council and the Brescia University College Board of Trustees.

The full list of rules and responsibilities for the position of Brescia University College Students’ Council President can be found in section 3.0 of By-Law #3 under the resources tab of the BUCSC website.

In order to be eligible for the position, one must meet the following requirements, as identified in By-Law #2:

  • Be in good academic standing with a minimum of a sixty-five percent (65%) grade average either cumulatively or in the last academic year, as certified by the Associate Registrar, and/or Academic Success, to run for the position

    • Proof of good standing must be submitted to the CRO or designated chair of the Elections Committee within twenty-four (24) hours of a nomination form being turned in.

  • Be part or full-time registered at Brescia both at the time of their nomination and throughout their term of office. Additionally: (a) Candidates must fulfil the specific eligibility requirements of the position as outlined in the relevant Terms of Reference.

  • Be a member of the senior class or have at least one (1) year of experience on the BUCSC, to be elected by a vote by all members of the student body

    • If an Executive Candidate does not meet this requirement, they must have a meeting with the Governance Officer to discuss their potential candidacy: (a) It is up to the discretion of the Governance Officer to allow an Executive Candidate that does not meet this requirement to run in the election.

  • Must fill out a nomination form by the end of the Nomination Period

  • Must in attendance for the All Candidates Meeting on January 20th

Nominations open on January 6th and run through January 20th. In order to be included on the ballot, one must fill out a nomination form indicating that they have support from at least ten (10) Brescia students. This requires a name, student number, and UWO email address from each of these supporters.

All campaigning must take place between January 20th at 11:59PM and January 27th at 11:59PM. Any candidate that campaigns beyond this time frame will be subject to demerit points.
